The above is a picture of me with my friend Rachel’s adorable and sweet pit bull mix Cessie. I include it as a preface to this hilarious/tragic story from Gothamist. The story is about a pit bull thats allowed to wander the halls of an UWS apt, terrorizing tenants. I wanted to counteract the idea that pit bulls are dangerous (although Gladwell does this way better than me in blink) even while promoting a story about pit bull attacks. Clearly the best part of the story is the following:
Elisa Schindler and her boyfriend said they were returning to their apartment with their Pomeranians Pumpkin, Sugarplum, and Marshmallow when Tyrus lunged at them. He knocked Schindler down and proceeded to maul four-pound Pumpkin, who survived, but required a hundred stitches. Schindler said that the attack left the hall spattered with Pumpkin’s blood and fur.
As the owner of a tiny dog i feel bad. At the same time I own only one tiny dog, and it is not named after something tasty.

Lots of talk this week about geeks since Gary Gygax died. Not that I have a real opinion on the subject, but Slate makes a more compelling argument than the NYTimes about the inherent value of D&D, even if the diagram above from the Times is hilarious. And to be fair anyone who brought that much joy and entertainment to so many deserves some serious props.

Apparently in Australia, taking a rugby ball straight to the face is known as a “falcon”.

Shocking I know. Fire the head coach of the team that just won the superbowl? Even though “he” clearly outcoached Bill Belichick, greatest coach (cheater) of the last 10 years? Yup. First of all, Steve Spagnuolo was clearly the one who did the outcoaching, second Zeus has spoken.

Before I was born NASA launched a satellite whose sole purpose was to orbit the earth and get pelted by various space debris and radiation. Its surface was covered with various modules to test how they would react to this punishment. The modules themselves ended up being quite beautiful, seen here on the nonist.
